2006 Bellarine 'Rebel Sport' Four Bridges Fun Run
by Cathryn Hoare
A record field turned out for the annual Bellarine
Athletics Inc 4 Bridges Fun Run, sponsored by Rebel Sport. The race was
held over a scenic 5km course around the Barwon River trails, starting
and finishing from the Fyansford Common. The race derives its name from
the four bridges crossed during the event, including the Queens Park
bridge.
At the start, the large field found a few people
examining the carpark gravel a little more closely than they would have
liked, but they were able to continue their race. Wesley Benson led the
field home to win the Open Men division. Next over the line was the
Veteran Men winner Charles El-Hage. Jo King led in the Open Women, with
Fiona MacDonald winning the Veteran Women.
In the junior section, Ryan Smith beat most of the older
open and veteran competitors to claim the boys race. Mikaila Hawken won
the junior girls. Each division winner went home with a voucher
generously donated by Rebel Sport. Several spot prizes were up for
grabs, including vouchers for Rebel Sport and massage by Darren McQueen.
